Educated at High Point College (BS Business Administration 1987). Guilford Technical Institute (Associate Degree in Aviation Management, Pilot Option 1979). He is now a captain for American Airlines and is based in New York. He started in 1979 as a flight instructor and later as a charter pilot for Atlantic Aero in Greensboro NC. In 1981 he began his corporate jet experience as a captain on a Lear Jet 35 for Forsyth Management Corporation. In 1985 he continued his jet experience flying a Lear Jet 25 for Kayser Roth Hosiery. Hired by American Airlines in 1987. Since that time Mike has been a fight engineer and first officer (co-pilot) on the Boeing 727 and a first officer on both the Boeing 757 and 767. He checked out as captain on the 757 and 767 in year 2000. His international experience has taken him to most major cities and airports in North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Scandinavia. From 1997 until 2004 Mike spent much of his spare time as a board member for High Point’s city ballet, High Point Ballet. He is credited for spearheading many ideas as a part of great team of volunteers in order to help develop and secure the ballet’s future in High Point. It was during that time that Mike became acutely aware of the educational benefits and opportunities afforded to students through dance education. It became his goal to take those lessons learned and to spread those opportunities and educational benefits to other area students. In early 2007, he began to spend time thinking of ways to help support some of his educational dreams, while also thinking of ways to create both direct and indirect economic benefits for the city of High Point that would also revitalize. The thoughts of using a street race as the economic engine for all this came to him while on countless layover in Long Beach, CA. Home of America’s longest running street auto grand prix event. He then considered the idea of having a grand prix race on the streets of downtown High Point during those down times between the International Homes Furnishing markets. In summer of 2007, he approached a group of civic and business leaders about actually making this grand prix event happen. He is now credited as founder of this idea and presently serves as chairman of board for Furniture City Motorsports. Mike is a licensed NC General Contractor and has also completed advance training for investing in and the trading of stocks and options. His hobbies and interest include, travel, tennis, gardening, exercise, movies, British cars, the arts, street grand prix racing and commuting to work in New York.
